Housing options

Most Boston Academy of English students choose to live in family homestays, in student residences, or in furnished apartments.  With each of these options, we can help to find you housing.

When completing your online TEFL application, select the housing option that is best for you!

The BAE House is in a quiet, safe, residential area 5 minutes' walk from the fashionable Inman Square and ten minutes' walk from Central Square or Kendall Squares - very popular student areas with clubs, shops, bars, coffee houses and all the facilities a student needs and wants. Harvard Square is also within easy walking distance. It is just two subway stops from to the school. Total journey time to BAE is 20-25 minutes

The BAE house has a member of staff living on the premises and provides good accommodation for students who want independence and like to mix with students of BAE from other countries, while enjoying the student atmosphere of Cambridge. The house is designed for those who want the independence of living on their own but with the security of having a staff member on hand with whom to practice their English. It is truly a "home" away from their own homes!

Features:· Sunday check-in · DSL-speed computer · Wireless Internet· Community kitchen and dining · Complimentary continental breakfast · Laundry facilities · In-room Safe · Recreation/TV room · Weekly/bi-weekly housekeeping · Choice of either private or shared rooms· Shared bathrooms

There are shared and single rooms available. The house has two large fully equipped kitchen/breakfast rooms and a large student lounge. Breakfast is provided as well as all bed linens and towels. There are also washing and drying facilities. Student bedrooms are single-sex rooms but they are not separated by floors and students are expected to maintain an adult respect for the privacy of individuals in exchange for the advantages of living within a mixed gender residence. Bathrooms are shared.

Evening meals are not provided within the house - students tend to want to eat at different times and different styles. Both kitchens are fully furnished for the students own cooking needs.

The accommodation can be booked through the web site but needs to be booked well in advance. Because of limited space we regret that we are unable to normally offer any extra days on this accommodation which can be booked from the Sunday prior to the course starting date through to the Saturday of departure.

Family homestays

The majority of our international students choose to live with a family, as it provides a great opportunity to experience American culture and home life, and to practice English outside of the classroom. Host families come in all shapes and sizes: couples with children, single parents, or retired couples.

All host families have been pre-screened, to ensure that the family is friendly and accommodating, and that the home is located in a safe neighborhood.

Most families live in the Boston suburbs, and all homes are located close to public transportation.

You can choose to have a single or double room; you can also decide whether to eat breakfast and dinner with your host(s) or prepare your own meals.

Homestays including breakfast and dinner cost $825 for 4 weeks.  Refer to our costs page to view the prices for all housing options.

Student residence halls/dormitories

If your preference is to live in a dormitory, the Boston Academy of English can also help you to find one.

Student residences can be more appealing for independent students who wish to live in a lively atmosphere. Each of the dormitories that house our students is within walking distance of the Academy; some are in the beautiful and picturesque Back Bay area. Rooms are always shared with one to three other students and include bed linens, towels, use of a bathroom , and breakfast and dinner.

Most student residences cost from $780 to $1,350 for 4 weeks, which includes a shared room and breakfast or breakfast and dinner each day. Refer to our costs page to view the prices for all housing options.

Furnished apartments

If you want full independence and privacy, a short-term furnished apartment is the option for you. These furnished apartments are located in or around Boston and include all furniture and amenities. They include cable TV and local phone services, all utilities, linens and kitchenware.

Furnished apartments cost a minimum of $2,000 for 4 weeks. Refer to our costs page to view the prices for all housing options.
