Which course is
right for me?

The minimum requirements for a serious intensive TEFL course are 120 hours of instruction, with 6 hours minimum of supervised practice teaching (with real ESL students). Accreditation of the school and program also ensures that the program has been externally evaluated and approved, giving additional value to the course. You will also benefit from taking your program at a school with an active ESL program, where you can interact with both students and teachers. Once you are satisfied with the basic qualifications of the course you should feel free to ask lots of questions, ask to speak to graduates, visit if you can. Make sure the school is genuinely interested in YOU and your success. You should feel confident that you are making a wise investment in your future by attending your chosen program.

What is the course
at BAE like?

We pride ourselves on the nature of our course, which is both academically rigorous and personally supportive. Although you will be working very, very hard, our school has a relaxed, family-like atmosphere in which you will feel comfortable and secure. The course teaches you how to teach all the skill areas of ESL/EFL, and gives you ample opportunity to put your new skills into practice with your trainers’ support and guidance. We use the model of experiential learning, so that you are learning by participating in the types of activities and methods that you will use with your students. Your learning and practice teaching will also be rooted in the communicative method, which stresses student-student interaction. At the end of your four- or twelve-week course you will leave with the ability and confidence to teach, as well as with lifelong relationships.

Who will train me?

You will work with a minimum of two trainers. All of our trainers are highly experienced ESL/EFL teachers, who have Masters degrees, and who have worked both in the United States and overseas.. They are passionate about and deeply committed to the development of new teachers and will support and guide you through each step of the program.

Am I elligible to
take your course?

Participants in our program have ranged in age from 18 to 80. Most have at least a bachelor's degree, but we do accept trainees with equivalent life/professional experience. If you were educated at a non-English speaking institution, you must have an interview with our staff and provide us with your TOEFL score. Whether or not you are a native speaker you should be able to speak and write English grammatically—but don’t worry about your knowledge of grammar rules: We will be happy to suggest pre-course reading in this area, and we will cover grammar teaching in the course.

What is the cost?

assistance?

The full-time course costs $2300, including application fee, tuition and all materials. The total cost of the part-time course is $2150. We do offer $200 scholarships to recent college graduates and to returned or future Peace Corps Volunteers. A similar discount is also available for each of two or more trainees applying and attending together. It is possible to arrange a payment plan for your tuition, and we will be happy to send you more information.
