Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for the CELTA program?

Candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are capable of completing the course successfully and take up teaching work afterwards. They should have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education as a minimum entry requirement; however, exceptions can be made based on excellence in other areas at the discretion of the Course Director. Also, it is generally recommended that candidates should be aged 20 or over, but candidates aged between 18 and 20 can be accepted.

What if I am a non-native speaker?

Non-native speakers of English are very welcome on our CELTA course and Stafford House employs many teachers who are non-native speakers of English. You need a high C1 or C2 level of English to be successful on the course and this will be assessed during the rigorous application process.

Why should I choose Stafford House?

The Stafford House CELTA is designed and delivered by very experienced, knowledgeable and passionate trainers. At Stafford House we allow trainers to use up to date classroom technology as well as old fashioned white boards, so that our trainees are ready for any teaching environment. We also offer expert career guidance and job opportunities through our sister companies.

I’m already have teaching experience, but what if I want to continue my education?

CELTA is an ideal course for candidates who are entirely new to teaching, but is equally useful for those who have taught languages but with little or no previous training and candidates who have taught other subjects and wish to take up language teaching. If you have already completed an initial teaching training course that is equal in status to the CELTA, then we would recommend a Diploma level course such as the Cambridge DELTA.

If I am accepted, is my certificate guaranteed?

In order to pass the course you must meet all of the requirements. You will be assessed through two components: Teaching Practice and Written Assignments. You must pass both parts to gain the certificate. There is no final examination for the CELTA course. Assessment is continuous (it will take place throughout the course) and integrated (any one assessed component can cover a number of syllabus topics and all components contribute to the grade).

If I need to miss a day or two or any classes, will it be impossible for me to complete this course?

The CELTA is a very intensive course, and 100% attendance is expected. You will not have time to do any paid work outside the full-time CELTA, even at weekends, as you will need to do spend a minimum of 80 hours in the four week period doing assignments and preparing for teaching.

Do you provide financial aid?

We do not offer financial aid. We do, however, occasionally offer special discounts. Check our website or attend an open house to inquire about any current specials.

What kind of time commitment should I expect if I enrol in CELTA?

The CELTA full time course is extremely intensive. You must make sure that you are in good health before you start the course and that you have the stamina to complete the number of contact hours required every day. You should also clear your schedule of any commitments and expect to work before the beginning of your day at school and after classes are finished every day, as well as on weekends.
